We got out for a beautiful springtime hike on this Mother's Day. We saw some pretty extraordinary creatures!
We caught this beaver having his dinner in the pond near the nature center.
Two downy woodpeckers
A little chickadee
Not a great shot, but we believe we saw a Veery
Absolutely our most exciting sighting of the day was this Barred Owl! We saw two flying around in a dense part of forest, and we happened to catch this one on camera!
Appropriate for Mother's Day, we saw this female mallard with her 8 babies swimming closely behind
Three wood ducks
Another new sighting was this Hermit Thrush, who had a beautiful song.
Yes, another new sighting! This is a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Here's a sweet Song Sparrow.
It's certainly spring! The bunnies are out!
Here's a Robin with a White-throated Sparrow.
White-throated Sparrows look very similar to the song sparrow seen above, but notice the yellow crest on his head.
And finally, a Red-winged Blackbird. These have been all over the reservation this spring.
Until next time!
